The Full Story

About Me

Hello, my name is Chris, and I'm the one-man band behind this operation. Located around Mooresville, NC, I decided to start this business simply for the enjoyment of the tinting process and the satisfaction that a completely new look brings to a vehicle. I moved to North Carolina in 2013, but before that I spent a few years working at a window tint and automotive accessories shop in Illinois. I have recently started getting back into tinting more consistently, but overall I have completed hundreds of vehicles throughout the years: everyday cars & trucks, local law enforcement, sports cars, luxury cars, limos, UTVs, farm equipment, and even boats. I have even dabbled in a bit of residential and commercial tinting—I don't enjoy heights, so it would have to be specific projects for me to take on these opportunities.

The Name—ShadowSpec Film Co.

I absolutely hate coming up with names, slogans, catch phrases, etc. I will never be satisfied with any option regardless of how good it sounds. So, even with this name came some compromise.

The "ShadowSpec" portion of the name has a bit of double meaning and was something I thought was clever, adding industry specifics with my own personal touches. The "Shadow" represents film shades providing privacy and UV protection, while the "Spec" leans into my current career as a quality manager and represents precision and quality throughout everything I do. The two combined together, "ShadowSpec," lean into the video game side of my life and relate to a game I've played for almost 20 years, World of Warcraft (bring on the judgment). In WoW, each class of characters has their own specialization (spec), and one character is a shadow priest. Since priests have different specializations, this one is often referred to as a "shadow spec" priest.

The "Film Co." portion of the name is a bit more straightforward. Window tint, PPF, and even vinyl wrap are all considered films. That combined with me always liking old-school tattoo parlors that commonly use "Co." in their name gave me the inspiration to go with that style of phrasing.

My goal

To be honest, I don't have any major goals that I'm striving for with this business; this is more of a passion project than my way of making $1 million. With that being said, I think that a majority of window tint shops anymore charge a ridiculous amount of money for their products and services, and that pushes a lot of people out of the market. So, one of my goals is giving people a more realistically priced option with the same, or better, quality as any major shop. Like I said, I am fortunate enough to have a full-time career outside of this that provides me the opportunity to do this business on the side, so I'm not going to be charging $1,000 to tint a car, no matter what film option you choose. Another goal would be to find, or build, a permanent building where I can take on larger projects like PPF or vinyl wrapping.

Overall

I want people to be happy and proud of what they have. No matter what vehicle, toy, or piece of working equipment someone has, it cost a lot of time, money, and hard work for them to acquire it. So, it is important to me to treat them all the same—like they are my own. I'm not operating from some tight corporate structure. I'm not trying to please any boss. I'm not trying to make huge profits. I'm just trying to do things I enjoy in the free time I do have and bring a little bit of enjoyment to people in the process. If you have any questions or any projects you aren't sure about, please reach out, and I would be happy to take a look. If there is a service I have not listed anywhere here, feel free to ask, and I will see if I can accommodate.

Thank you for your time,
